Before you move out make sure that you get information on all options available to you by accessing Sussex Central YMCA’s Housing Advice service (16-25s) in the centre of town. They can advise you on housing for young people in the City, like renting a room or accessing supported accommodation.
When looking at renting a room you need to think about a deposit, rent in advance, having a guarantor and how much rent you can afford. At the YMCA they can help you create a personal action plan to ensure that moving out goes as smoothly as it can. Also, prepare to live independently by attending their Skillz for Life course which runs 3 times a year and covers topics like looking for rented accommodation, knowing your rights as a tenant, budgeting, health living, saving, and drugs & alcohol.
